Bio
I’m an author and pastor. I serve as the senior pastor of Ginger Creek Community Church, a church of over 1,000 attendees in the Chicago suburbs.
I earned an engineering degree from Georgia Tech, a Masters of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Doctorate of Ministry from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.
I’m also a rabid Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket fan.
My latest book, published in May 2010, 5 Ministry Killers and How to Defeat Them focuses on how to overcome pastoral burnout, frustration, and depression so that we pastors are able to fully serve Christ, our families, and our churches. Using previously unpublished, commissioned research from the Barna Group, LifeWay and Christianity Today, I use my thirty years in the ministry to identify five potent killers in pastors’ lives and show how to defeat them to regain the hope and enthusiasm we once had for ministry.
My first book, Daughters Gone Wild-Dads Gone Crazy, co-authored with my daughter Heather, was featured on the Dr. Laura Show as a feature book. We both appeared in a two-part series on Focus on the Family with Dr. James Dobson and our interview garnered a top-ten broadcast rating and was aired again. We recently appeard on James Dobson’s new program, FamilyTalk. The book earned the Writer of the Year Award at the Write-to-Publish Conference held at Wheaton College in 2007. Over 25 of my articles have appeared in leading ministry and parenting magazines.
I’ve traveled several times to Nicaragua to serve the people there. See some of the photos from Nicaragua in the sidebar and on Flickr.
I love to fish, ride my recumbent bike, and go to the movies with Sherryl, my wife of 30 years (I always gets the jumbo bag of popcorn with a free refill).
Two canines make their home with us in Aurora, Illinois.
My wife and I have three grown children; Heather, age 28, who is married to Charlie Anderson, Joshua, age 26, and Tiffany, age 23.
